MCBC Statement of Faith
What We Believe...
1. We believe that the Bible is fully inspired by God, that it is entirely trustworthy and is our guide for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
2. We believe in one triune God; existing eternally as three persons: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19)
3. We believe He expressed Himself in human form through Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. We believe He was crucified for the sins of us all, rose again bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven. (John 1:1, 14, 18; Matthew 1:23; Philippians 2:5-11; Acts 1:9-11)
4. We believe that the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, dwells in every believer immediately when he places his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and that God provides, through the Holy Spirit, power to live the Christian life. (Romans 5:5; 8:1-9; Galatians 5:16-25)
5. We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, but sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but spiritual death, which is separation from God, and that human beings are born with a sinful nature. (Gen. 1:26; Gen. 2:17; Ps. 51:5; Isa. 59:2; Rom. 3:23)
6. We believe that no one can enter the kingdom of God unless born again spiritually, and that the new birth of the believer comes only through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We believe, also, that our redemption has been accomplished by the grace of God, an unmerited gift, given in love by God and not the result of any human works. (John 3:3, 16-17; Eph. 2:8-10) We believe in the bodily resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, His ascension into heaven, and his present life there as High Priest and Advocate for us.
7. We also believe in the blessed hope, which is the bodily, visible and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 4:14-16)
8. We believe that local churches, such as MCBC, gather for practical instruction in the scriptures, for fellowship with God and with other believers, and for corporate witness to the unsaved world. Our common spiritual goal is to grow toward “Christlikeness”. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:5; Ephesians 4:13-16)
9. We both believe and practice the two ordinances Christ instructed the Church: (1) Water Baptism by immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving the gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation. (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-26)
10. We believe that the term ‘marriage’ has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:23-30).
11. We believe that the Bible is fully inspired by God, that it is entirely trustworthy and is our guide for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
